Order Pickup, Delivery, Shipping
How do I get my order?
We offer many ways to get your order - free contactless pickup in Saint John West or Quispamsis, $5 Local delivery, and Canada-wide shipping.
How does contactless pickup work?
At checkout, you can select which location you'd like to collect your books from.
- West Saint John (orders are usually ready in 24 hours)
- Quispamsis (orders are usually ready in 2-4 business days)
You will receive an email when your order is ready, with pickip instructions. Orders will be placed inside a designated pickup bin.
How long do I have to pick up my order?
Orders will be held for 30 days from the date of pickup notification. If you are unable to pickup within the 30-day window, send us an email to make arrangements.
If your order has not been picked up within 30 days, and we have not heard from you, the order will be cancelled and refunded to your original payment method.
How does local delivery work?
We offer local delivery in the Saint John area (within 20km of the shop location, in west Saint John). Delivery is a flat rate of $5 per order, and you will receive an email or text message to arrange delivery time.
If your location is outside of our delivery radius, feel free to send us a message - we travel often and do our best to accommodate deliveries when we can!
Do you ship?
Yes! We offer Canada-wide shipping. At this time, international shipping is not available. Check out our shipping page for more information.
Can I shop in person?
We don’t currently have a physical location for you to browse, but we attend events throughout the year and bring lots of Fablefern goodies with us. You can follow our upcoming events here.
Product Questions
Is the version of the book I see the one I am getting?
Our book covers are generated using each book's unique ISBN number, and we make every effort to ensure the cover version you see is the one you are purchasing. You can check the product description for any specifics.
If you want to be extra sure, just send us a message - we are always happy to confirm!
What condition are your books in?
We do our best to find books in excellent condition for you. You can expect books to be in gently used condition (minor creases or wear, initials on the front cover). You may even get your hands on some brand new books.
Books with any major damage will have this noted in the product description.
What is Blind Date with a Book?
Have you ever found yourself struggling to pick your next read? Problem solved! Blind Date with a Book lets you choose based on a few keywords and small bits of info, so you’re in for a surprise. All books are wrapped and have short clues on the front (including genre, age rating, and some fun hints). All Blind Date books are secondhand books in very good condition.
Do you have a refund policy?
All sales are final. We do not offer refunds or exchanges.
Trade In/Donation/Store Credit
Do you buy secondhand books?
We accept books in exchange for store credit. In general, we offer $2 per book (hardcovers, new releases, and popular books can be more).
Occasionally, we purchase large collections of books - feel free to send us a message about this.
What kinds of books do you accept for store credit?
- Books in excellent condition (no rips, stains, smells, writing, or other visible damage)
- Paperback and Hardcover books (please note: we do not accept mass market paperbacks)
- All age ranges and genres (no textbooks)

What can I spend my store credit on?
Store credit can be spent on secondhand books.
Bookish accessories, specialty items (blind date with a book, book boxes, advent calendars) are not eligible for purchase with store credit.
Do you accept book donations?
If you've got books you're looking to get off your shelves, we happily accept donations to support the Fablefern Educators Fund.
We assess the store credit value of your donations, and this credit is applied to our Educators Fund account.
The Fablefern Educators Fund
What is the Fablefern Educators Fund?
Fablefern’s Educators Fund is a program created to help our hardworking teachers and school staff stock their classrooms and libraries with books.
Fablefern vouchers are issued to educators who register for the program, allowing them to purchase books for their classrooms/libraries.
How is this program funded?
Books can be donated to help us fund the Fablefern Educators Fund. When books are donated, we assess their store credit value, and apply that value to the Educators Fund.
Fablefern matches every dollar added to the fund via your generous book donations.
How do I donate books for the Educators Fund?

I’m an educator - how do I apply?
You can get added to our database by filling out the form on this page.
If I receive Fablefern Educators Fund store credit, do I need to re-apply to be considered again?
Yes. Your contact information will be archived after you receive store credit. This allows us to keep our database up-to-date. Feel free to re-apply! There is no limit to how many times you can apply for the Educators Fund.
How often do you issue store credit?
Once a month, we review the store credit account to determine how much credit we have to give out. Our goal is to offer credit to as many educators as possible, so we are limiting store credit vouchers to one per person per calendar year.
How much store credit will I get?
Will will issue store credit in $50 increments.
What if I don’t see books on your website for my students' age range?
We are always adding new inventory! And there’s nothing we love more than finding the perfect book for someone. That’s why we ask about the ages and interest of your students in our form–if there are certain titles you’re after, we will make it our mission to track those down for you.
How long do I have to use my store credit?
Your store credit code will be valid for one year from the date of issue.
